Lii Brooke
After identification you may be wondering what autism means to you personally. Perhaps your emotions escape you. You might be feeling isolated and unsure or there may be a sense of relief.
My name is Lii. I am an autistic counsellor, based in the UK, supporting autistic adults with navigating life.
As a fellow autistic person, I am likely to understand you quickly. I know first-hand the life-long struggle of fitting in and the tension that comes with simply being in a busy space. I was assessed as an adult and my own internal dialogue about being autistic still very much continues.
How counselling helps
Embracing your autism and leading a fulfilling life doesn’t have to be a struggle. Realising things could be easier is the first step towards positive change. It may be useful for you to be truly heard, to explore how you want your life to be and what you can do about it. A post-identification conversation is the start of this process.
During counselling sessions I help you to:
- discover your genuine self
- manage emotions
- negotiate fulfilling relationships
- thrive at work
Previous clients said they had found the sessions beneficial and walked away with renewed hope.
Qualifications and approach
A registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I hold a diploma in therapeutic counselling. Being on a Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA) register means I work in accordance with the ethical standards of my membership organisation and that my counselling practice is run safely and diligently. Most of my continuous professional development is focused on autism and I am currently studying towards a postgraduate certificate in autism at Sheffield Hallam University.
My approach to counselling places you, the client, at the centre of the process of positive change. I respect your autonomy. When things get hard, you may lose sight of your strengths. I am here to support you with using your existing resources and gaining new skills to get closer to what you want your reality to be.
Online sessions are available wherever you are, and in-person sessions are held in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, UK.
So, what does autism mean to you? Shall we talk it through? Please reach out, it would be great to hear from you.
