Neurodiversity-affirming Coach, Mentor & Educator: Nuala
I’m Nuala, a neurodiversity coach, mentor and educator.
Following a long corporate career, I decided to do something I’d talked about for a long time: train as a professional coach. I’ve been coaching for many years now, with a more recent specialism in adult autism/neurodiversity.
I’m also a late-identified Autistic, ADHD and Dyspraxic woman. My ‘eureka’ moment’ was part of a burnout that I was struggling to understand. Seeking an Autism assessment felt like a big decision, with mixed emotions. I was of course Autistic all along, but it took a while to process the ‘what now’ and ‘what next.’ I’m very grateful to the people and communities who supported me at that time.
My main areas of work are:
- Coaching and mentoring for recently identified Autistic/neurodivergent adults.
- Leadership, career and wellbeing coaching for neurodivergent and neurotypical adults.
- Neurodiversity awareness and education.
About your Support Session:
The beauty of neurodiversity coaching is that no two people or conversations are the same. It’s focused on each client’s needs, priorities or questions, rather than the coach’s agenda. My role is to listen and respond in a way that helps you get the most from our time together. If there’s something I don’t know, I’ll do my best to find and out share it with you afterwards.
You might already know what you want to explore in your session. It’s OK if you aren’t sure about that. We’ll figure it out together.
Things that sometimes come up:
- How did I (or others) not notice this before?
- What do I say to my friends, family or colleagues?
- What is masking and am I doing this?
- Should I tell my employer?
- Is Autism a disability?
- What’s AUDHD?
- How can I connect with other Autistic adults?
- Emotions: noticing, naming or managing them.
- Hobbies and interests
While there are often common themes, each person brings their own unique experience and perspective. I love this aspect, and my most significant learning has been from my clients.
Practical stuff:
Sessions are usually online (e.g. Zoom), with camera on or off. If you like, we can split the 60 minutes into two or more shorter conversations.
There are no rules about how you show up in our session. You can sit, stand, move, stim or other things that support your engagement and comfort. Please reach out if there’s anything you’d like to know or share about this.
And, if video calls aren’t your thing, we can do this in a different way (e.g. a phone call or a text/email conversation).
