Lisa Mulvihill

Hello, my name is Lisa (she/her) and I am delighted to be working with Thriving Autistic.

I am a CORU registered occupational therapist based in Ireland with almost 17 years of clinical experience, predominantly in mental health and primary care settings.

I work with adults and adolescents from the age of 13 years upwards. I am also a clinical supervisor, adult educator/trainer and group facilitator.

As someone who is multiply neurodivergent and a healthcare professional, I am very aware of how challenging accessing health and support services can be for neurodivergent people and so I endeavour to ensure that I provide an accessible, safe, supportive and non-judgemental space for everyone who chooses to work with me. My clinical, supervisory and training practice is underpinned by human rights and social justice. My practice is trauma-informed, neuro-affirming and LGBTQIA+ affirming.

In my work as an occupational therapist specialising in mental health and neurodivergence, I am guided by what you want to explore/change/achieve. Some examples include but are not limited to:

  • Exploration of your autistic and/or ADHD identity and what it has meant for you to discover that you are neurodivergent.
  • Learning about masking and how to connect with your authentic self.
  • Autistic burnout and/or ADHD burnout – what it is and what may help you recover.
  • Safely addressing the impact of trauma in your daily life and routine.
  • Learning about executive functioning differences commonly experienced when you are neurodivergent and strategies/accommodations that can help you work to your strengths.
  • Exploration of your sensory needs and strategies to support your sensory health.
  • How interoception differences and alexithymia can impact autistic neurodivergent people.
  • Recommendations for school/college/workplace accommodations.
  • Exploring alternative work/education options that support you to work to your strengths.
  • Considering opportunities for connecting with the autistic and/or ADHD community.
  • Making changes to your home environment to support your neuro-divergent needs.

For your Post Identification Support Session, you might arrive with a clear idea of what you would like to discuss. If you wish you can let me know what this is in advance. Alternatively, you might have no idea of what you’d like to use the time for. This is absolutely fine!

There is no right or wrong way to use this session so please don’t worry about choosing a specific topic to discuss or having to do a lot of preparation in advance, the hour is yours to use as you wish and I will vary my approaches depending on what you find helpful.

You are free to have your camera on or off, use text or speech, stim, use fidget tools, and have your pet/support animal present, no masking necessary!

I would love to support you in whatever way I can so please get in touch if you have any questions/queries or if you would like to book your session.
