Psychotherapeutic Counselling with Jen

About Jennifer
Hi, I’m Jennifer, an accredited and experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor specialising in supporting Autistic and neurodivergent adults. Since beginning my professional journey in 2012 within the NHS Adult Mental Health services, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with individuals from diverse backgrounds, genders, and neurotypes. Through my career and personal life, I’ve come to appreciate that life isn’t neat or linear, and we can all benefit from support when life feels too much.
Post-Identification Support
Discovering or receiving a diagnosis of Autism can be both freeing and overwhelming. I offer specialised post-identification support to help you navigate this new understanding of yourself. Our sessions are entirely tailored to your needs.
Common topics we might explore include:
- Next Steps After Diagnosis: Exploring what your diagnosis means for you and planning your path forward.
- Recovering from Burnout: Identifying signs, immediate coping strategies, and planning for recovery.
- Reducing Anxiety: Developing personalised techniques to manage anxiety and sensory sensitivities.
- Unmasking: Understanding where masking ends and your authentic self begins, and making conscious decisions about unmasking.
- Disclosure Decisions: Navigating whether and how to disclose your neurodivergence to others.
- Understanding Sensory Overwhelm and Shutdowns: Recognising triggers and developing strategies to manage sensory overwhelm
- Navigating Relationships and Friendships: Addressing risks, realities, and creating new approaches to social connections.
- Internalised Ableism and Stigma: Challenging negative beliefs and societal stereotypes about neurodivergence.
- Managing Emotions: Enhancing your ability to identify and manage emotions through increased awareness.
- Self-Ownership and Self-Advocacy: Empowering you to assert your needs and advocate for yourself confidently.
- Addressing Barriers to Inclusion: Identifying obstacles to inclusion and developing strategies to overcome them.
- Supporting AuDHD Individuals: Providing specialised support for those who are both autistic and have ADHD.
- Crisis Management: Collaboratively creating a plan for managing a crisis.
